FVS Weekly Nr. 99

Dear Friends,

I am back in Hamburg. For the last five weeks, I have been soaking up the sun in Spain to prepare for a long, dark winter in Germany. I do this every year. Although I am never just on vacation, it always feels like a vacation, a very energizing one. As you know from previous articles, I am still teaching at ELISAVA’s Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees.

At the Master of Visual Design, I taught the Modular Type Design block seminar again. As always, the results were fantastic, and I will soon share with you the best fonts that emerged from it. I might even turn it into an additional assignment for the Modular Type Design course on FVS.

Here are the articles about the last two workshops:

… and here is the foundry we made with some of the fonts:

For the Bachelor’s Degree in Interactive Design, I tried something new that could become a new course on www.flexiblevisualsystems.info. Last year, I used the FVS approach to design a system for Data Visualization. This year, I used System Thinking to design Concept Maps. We often use Concept or Topic Mapping in Social Innovation Design at Dark Matter Labs to achieve a non-linear understanding of a complex and multi-polar problem. Turning this process into a course could give you a new tool to think about any problem you are confronted with.

A few other beautiful things are in the pipeline, waiting to be released. One is the lovely works we saw at the last Community Meetup. I will get all of this going this week.

Let’s also set a date for the next Meetup. I want to do this more regularly from now on. It’s fun to chat with you now and then and see the fantastic systems you are developing.

Talk soon,
Martin
