Designers worldwide have fully embraced the paradigm shift from static to flexible. While in the last century, the identity revolved around logos, representing a message, this century is about systems functioning as flexible visual languages. This shift will have profound implications for how we relate to the world.

The FVS Atlas is a growing directory of a global community of trailblazing designers pushing (FV) System Design to new creative heights. This book compiles brilliant examples from 64 design studios from 23 countries. We had inspiring conversations with Hilary Greenbaum about breathing life into the identity system of Experimental Jetset for the Whitney Art Museum in the US, with Liu Zhao from Another Design about their work for Xi’An Community Art in China, with Sacha van den Haak and Anton Lamberg from Lava Design about a design tool being the identity system for the festival Smeerboel in the Netherlands, and Anna Kulaschek about the creative freedom given by OK-RM’s flexible system for Strelka in Russia. An extensive nine-page introduction discusses visual identity, how flexible visual systems work, and the FVS model.
